We have been busy working on plans for our future. The next few months are overflowing with opportunities to join us on the "Common Ground" that is live theatre. This email newsletter will bring you up to date on the exciting headway we have already made and alert you to events in the immediate future. You, our audience and partners in the community, are important to our success. We want to keep you informed on the role you can play.

Common Ground Theatre proudly welcomes one of our own! The Common Ground board of directors has named Hassan El-Amin as Artistic Director beginning immediately. Hassan is a San Diego native and nationally known actor and teacher who regards Common Ground as his theatrical home and names Dr. Floyd Gaffney as one of his most important mentors. Hassan's directorial debut was the successful productin of Jazz Queens Cast Blues Shadows and he will direct our upcoming Holiday production “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” Black Nativity, The Musical.

T“Oh Come All Ye Faithful” Black Nativity, The Musical, is a soulful retelling of the birth of Jesus. Through the use of diversified genres such as: soul stirring Gospel music, syncopated Hip Hop beats, Ballet, Crunk dance, Spoken word, Rap, and Praise and Worship, Common Ground Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director Hassan El-Amin, choreographer Sandra Foster King and musical Director, Dr. Rose Buchanan, will present a powerful, entertaining and soul uplifting night at the theatre. “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” Black Nativity, The Musical, will be an evening of pure joy, pleasure and shouts of “Amen”. The play will feature pre-show gospel performances by some of San Diego’s hottest gospel artists. Plus every performance will star a guest minister from local San Diego churches. More

STUDENT SHAKESPHERE FESTIVAL -
Go Monique! Go Youth Academy Actors! Go Common Ground Theatre!.
Let us all applaud and thank Monique Gaffney for the outstanding job she did in conducting the eight-week Youth Academy Shakespeare workshops. Her Common Ground troupe was outstanding standouts at the Festival on Saturday, April 24 at Balboa Park. Loren Lott won a Best Actor Award. Her picture was in the Sunday Union Tribune with the name of Common Ground Theatre prominently displayed. Of five pictures of the Festival on Sign On San Diego, two were of Monique's Common Ground actors. Look for us in next year's festival on April 30, 2011

CALL FOR BOARD AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS
As a non-profit organization, we rely on our volunteer board and committee members to do some of the work usually done by paid staff at larger theatre companies. We could use immediate help with maintaining our profile in the digital world through our website and in creating and maintaining a Common Ground presence on Facebook and other social networking sites. We are always looking for highly committed board members who can help represent Common Ground to the San Diego community and help us secure financial support through grant writing and fund raising efforts.
